Western Dredging Association’s (WEDA) Young Professional Award is reserved for those individuals thirty-five and younger, who made exceptional contributions to WEDA and to the dredging community over the past year or years. Annually, WEDA reviews potential candidates for the Young Professional Award, who are nominated by their colleagues. The winner is then selected through a rigorous evaluation process by the WEDA Awards Committee, who are members of WEDA’s Board of Directors.
This year’s Young Professional Award was presented to WSP’s Kimbrie Gobbie at the WEDA Summit & Expo held from June 24-27, 2024 in Tampa, Florida.
Kimbrie Gobbi is a Vice President with WSP in San Diego, California She has been with the company since 2009 and currently serves as the manager of WSP’s aquatic sciences practice.
Kimbrie received her MS degree in Marine Science from the University of San Diego where her thesis work involved evaluating sedimentation in bays and reefs below developed versus undeveloped watersheds on St. John, US Virgin Islands.
Kimbrie has managed WSP’s dredged material characterization and permitting program for over a decade. She routinely manages dredging projects for her West Coast clients such as the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, the US Coast Guard, and the US Navy. She has received multiple exceptional ratings from the US Navy for her exemplary work supporting the Navy’s mission.
Kimbrie is an excellent mentor to her staff, particularly junior staff and women scientists, and always leads by example. She has been responsible for developing and implementing numerous project innovations and is well known for her can-do attitude. She is admired for her leadership skills by staff and subcontractors alike.
