Spanning six segments and fourteen major construction packages, Project 11 represents a groundbreaking approach to large-scale infrastructure. Nearly 100% of the engineering-grade (non-silt) dredged material and more than 15 million cubic yards from the Galveston Bay portion was repurposed to create:
• 10-acres of bird islands
• 276-acres of intertidal marsh
• 324-acres of oyster reefs
Additionally, the project unlocks more than 600 acres (12.4 million cubic yards) of future operation & maintenance capacity for the Houston Ship Channel.
Led by the teams at Port Houston and USACE-SWG, this work ensures safe, sustainable waterway growth for the nation’s most vital economic corridors. We would also like to thank the design teams at GBA and AECOM. Learn more about Project 11 at https://hubs.ly/Q03ysMvq0
