Yesterday, November 6, Oleg Kiper, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, was on a working visit to the Izmail district. The main pumping station “Kyslytska” and the Kyslytsky arm of the Danube were the first locations visited by the head of the OVA. This is reported by “Bessarabia INFORM”.
It is worth noting that the main pumping station “Kyslytska” was built back in 1978. It is the main source of the reclamation system. During 2022-2023, the forces of the water management department carried out works on the reconstruction of this station.
However, one of the biggest problems of the system remains the condition of pressure reinforced concrete pipelines, which have served their regulatory term, often fail, forming surges. The stoppage of water supply due to gusts can last up to two weeks. During this time, the quality of the crop is lost, or it dies altogether.
Water intake is carried out by an underwater canal from Lake Katlabukh. Since the construction of the pumping station and the underpass, dredging work has been carried out by a dragline excavator. It can clean a width of ten meters from the shore. Due to this, a shoal formed in the middle of the channel.
As part of the implementation of a joint project of international technical assistance, the Japanese government handed over universal, powerful and multifunctional equipment – an amphibious dredger – at the end of July. With its help, the underwater channel from Lake Katlabukh was cleaned in a volume of 11,000 m 3 , which provides water supply on an area of 7,600 hectares.
The joint efforts of the Izmail Regional State Administration and the Izmail Water Management Department have cleared the Hromadsky transport canal in the volume of 8 thousand m 3 , which ensures the improvement of the ecological condition of the Saf’yani – Lung and Katlabukh reservoirs.
In addition, work was carried out to clear the bar part of the Zhelyavskyi channel, which will provide an opportunity to ensure the gravity replenishment of Lake Katlabukh in the future flood period.
Currently, the dredger is performing work on clearing the underpass of the main pumping station “Kyslytska”.
Depending on the receipt of the necessary financing and the availability of fuel, work is planned to clean up the Kyslytsky branch of the Danube.
It should be noted that the Kyslytsky arm provides gravity replenishment of Katlabukh reservoirs, China, fills six pumping stations, covers the needs of the Kiliysk drinking water intake. If no measures are taken, Kislytskyi’s sleeve will die. This will lead to the shallowing and complete drying of lakes Katlabukh, Safyan – Lung, China, on the shores of which there are more than ten settlements.
Now it is necessary to start clearing the islands with the help of an amphibious dredger. This work must be carried out annually for three years. Preliminary calculations for the elimination of the islands amount to one million hryvnias per year.
During the meeting, the leadership of the RDA noted that it is urgently necessary to provide annual funding from the state budget to prevent a possible environmental disaster, as well as ensure proper living conditions for the population and intensive agricultural production, reduce the mineralization of reservoirs, soil salinization and increase its fertility, and improve the quality of land.
Also, at the meeting with Oleg Kiper, the question of raising the level of the Danube due to heavy precipitation in the fall, which may pose a threat to the quality of drinking water in the Bolgrad and Izmail districts, was raised.
