VOSTA parent reports accident at its Indonesian shipyard with multiple fatalities

DredgeWire has learned that the vessel was

Federal II, a 95,759 dwt Aframax tanker built in Japan in 1990, recently converted into an FSO and formerly chartered for 10 years by China’s CNOOC. Reportedly, the cause of the fire was sparks from welding.

The Board of Directors of ASL Marine Holdings Ltd. regrets to inform that an incident involving fire took place in our subsidiary’s (PT ASL Shipyard Indonesia) shipyard, in Batam, Indonesia on 24 June 2025 at or around 2.15pm GMT+7.

Initial inquiries confirm that the incident occurred on board a Floating Storage and Offloading Vessel (“FSO”) that was undergoing afloat repair alongside one of the shipyard’s jetties. From this initial inquiry, we regret to announce that four people have died, and five people have been injured and are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital. They were all employees of our subcontractor.

We are deeply saddened by this incident which resulted in loss of lives and injuries. We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of all the victims and as a matter of utmost priority and dedication, we will continue to work diligently with the authorities, the owner of the FSO and our subcontractor to render all necessary assistance to the affected victims and their families.

The investigations are currently in process and until the cause is established, all work on this FSO has been suspended.
