VIDEO: Giant containership blocks Suez Canal

UPDATED: One of the world’s largest containerships, Evergreen’s 20,388 TEU Ever Given, got stuck in the Suez Canal March 23, blocking traffic in both directions. According to reports, at one time seven tugs were working to free the 400 meter long by 58.8 meter beam ship, which ran aground at km 151 of the Suez Canal.

Efforts to free the vessel continued this morning (March 24) but wind conditions and its size of were hindering the operation.

UPDATE FROM GAC HOT PORT NEWS: 12:00 hours local time: According to information from the Suez Canal Authority, the grounded vessel has been partially refloated and is now alongside the Canal bank. Convoys and traffic are expected to resume as soon as vessel is towed to another position.
