The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Sacramento District is hosting an informational public meeting to provide an update on environmental restoration activities to address contamination in soil vapor and groundwater at the former Titan 1-A Missile facility (Site) in Lincoln, California. This work is being conducted as part of the Defense Environmental Restoration Program’s (DERP) Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) program. The meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Sun City Lincoln Hills Community Association’s Orchard Creek Ballroom, located at 965 Orchard Creek Lane.
The meeting will be an open house format with poster board stations covering the history of the Site, environmental findings, next steps in the remedial investigation process, and plans for public participation. A short presentation will be given from 5 to 5:30 p.m. and will also be recorded and uploaded to the project website for those who cannot attend the meeting.
In addition to USACE project team members, Placer County Supervisor Shanti Landon and staff from the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board will be in attendance to observe the meeting.
The Site was formerly operated as a nuclear missile site from 1962 to 1965 by the Department of Defense. USACE is following the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) process for this project. The project is currently in the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) phase. During this phase, samples of soil, soil vapor, and groundwater are collected and analyzed to determine the nature and extent of contamination. Reports outlining the agency’s findings (RI) and potential alternatives for consideration (FS) are scheduled to be completed in 2024.
