Working with our partners! Lake Okeechobee, Florida’s largest lake, is the liquid heart of the Everglades. USACE Jacksonville District leadership, Col. Brandon Bowman, Maj. Cory Bell, Eva Velez and Dr. Tabitha Elkington got an in depth look at the Lake Okeechobee’s ecological conditions with leadership from Audubon Florida and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The USACE Jacksonville District manages Lake Okeechobee water levels to meet multiple authorized purposes including navigation, recreation, and flood risk management; improving water supply performance; and enhancing ecology in Lake Okeechobee, northern estuaries, and across the South Florida ecosystem.
