USACE awards General De Gaulle Drainage and Improvement Phase 2 Construction Contract

The United States Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, awarded the General De Gaulle Drainage Improvement Phase 2 Construction Contract (SELA 72.2) on July 8, 2024, in the amount of $28,927,540.00 to Omega Foundation Services LLC. out of Slaughter, Louisiana.

This contract will be the second federally construction drainage improvement feature on the Westbank in Orleans Parish.  This additional drainage features will advance the progress of implementing the Southeast Louisiana Urban Drainage Improvement Project in Algiers Subbasin to provide the level of flood risk reduction from a 10-year rainfall event, 3 inches in the first hour and 9 inches in a 24-hour period.  This contract is the first construction contract utilizing funding from Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (DRSAA), 2022 which is 100% federally funded.

The SELA 72.2 construction contract includes the following:

  1. Will complete the General De Gaulle section from Behrman Place to the Algiers Outfall Canal,
  2. New subsurface drainage:
    • Sandra Street and Pace Boulevard extending from the General De Gaulle Canal to Vespasian Street.
    • Indiana Street extending from the General De Gaulle Canal to Seine Street,
