The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, awarded a $7.4 million contract August 25, 2023, to implement Advance Measures engineering solutions to protect critical infrastructure and mitigate flood risk Mora County, New Mexico.
The contract was awarded to Kha’P’o Construction Services, Inc., based out of Española, New Mexico.
“We have the ability to deliver some flood mitigation for the people who live in this area and endured last year’s wildfires. It’s important to me that we’re working with state and county officials to support and protect the communities we serve,” said Lt. Col. Jerre Hansbrough, USACE, Albuquerque District Commander.
The contractor will use gabion baskets, wire-wrapped riprap, and post-assisted log structures to protect critical infrastructure from sediment and debris.
“Our number one priority continues to be the life, health, and safety of those affected by flooding in the area,” said Hansbrough.
The period of construction performance is 60 days from when the contractor is given official notice to proceed from USACE.
“This work won’t come without some challenges,” said U.S. Army Capt. Rob Zebrowski, project manager, USACE-Albuquerque District. “The terrain is tricky and we’re already seeing flooding so the weather will have an impact on the project, but our team is working hard to get the work done as quickly as possible.”
