On April 8, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, announced the award of a construction contract to Ahtna-Great Lakes E&I JV, totaling $26,381,300.00. This work involves the replacement and rehabilitation of the Delta Pump Station with two high-flow pumps, pump house, and sump. The existing 700 horsepower pumps will be replaced with pumps of equal capacity but capable of pumping 40,000 gallons per minute with a total dynamic head of 46.4 feet significantly increasing operational efficiencies.
Design efforts will begin within approximately 60 days of contract award, with construction expected to begin in early 2026. The new pump house will be designed to visually align with adjacent west levee pump stations across the floodway. Funding for the project is provided through the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 and cost shared with the City of Dallas.
Dallas Floodway is a federally authorized and non-federally operated and maintained, urban flood risk management system. The levees were originally constructed by local community partners in response to devastating flood events in the early 1900s. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has made significant improvements to the Dallas Floodway and the interior drainage system since the 1950s, most recently completing the AT&SF Bridge Demolition, and 277K Levee Raise and Slope Flattening. Ongoing improvements continue with the active construction of Charlie Pump Station and Nobles Branch Sump improvements. Planning and coordination are also underway for the future construction of Hampton 3 Pump and Trinity Portland Pump Stations.
