LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be conducting maintenance activities at Brookville Lake in Brookville, Indiana, which could impact downstream fishery conditions and recreation public access to the tailwater area. These activities are scheduled to begin in April and last through November 2023.
Maintenance activities from mid-April through May will at times require variability in outflows that could increase the uncertainty of water volume and temperature downstream, which may impact the downstream fishery. Normal outflows will resume each afternoon during this time, but increased uncertainty in downstream conditions is to be expected. This is not expected to change IDNR’s stocking plans for the tailwater this season.
Lake maintenance activities include:
- Completion of main gate rehabilitation: periods of activity affecting downstream flows are expected in mid-April until sometime in May, lasting approximately two weeks in duration. The Dam Vista and access road will be closed during this period.
- Tailwater haul road and riprap construction: tailwater road construction will affect public access for purposes of fishing from April through November. The Tailwater Fishermen’s Access Area parking lot will be closed and public access restricted. Riprap work along the tailwater may require low flow conditions during daytime hours and will not commence until the haul road is completed, approximately early fall. Portions of the Tailwater Recreation Area near the river are expected to be within the work zone and public access will be restricted. Parking lot, picnic shelters and restrooms are expected to remain open, subject to changing conditions.
The times and duration of these activities are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors. Any questions concerning the upcoming work can be directed to the Brookville Lake Office at (765) 647-6701.
