JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON — Beginning today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District is soliciting contractor bids for the first phase of construction for the Port of Nome Modification Project in Nome, Alaska.
The Port of Nome Modification Phase 1A project will construct a 1,200-foot-long extension to the existing Nome causeway and will consist of a layered aggregate and rock embankment protected by 18-tons of armor stone. The causeway extension will incorporate a 30-foot-wide road surface and includes a 600-foot-long sheet pile dock. This project includes removal of the 250-foot-long Spur Breakwater and existing 22-ton armor stone and B-rock underlayer at the nose of the causeway.
