MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers shared details Wednesday about large dredging barges seen on the Mississippi River.
These efforts are to help shipping barges get through the river here in Memphis.
Shipping costs for barge owners are expected to increase because they cannot ship as much product while the water is low.
“The Coast Guard helps manage the river with the Corps. They will put restrictions on private industry on how deep they can draft,” said Colonel Brian Sawser with the U.S Army Corp of Engineers.
Experts say they will continue to dredge and dike construction until the water levels return to normal.
