Udupi: Court complaint registered over illegal sand mining in the guise of dredging

Udupi, May 19: The department of mining and geology registered a private complaint in Udupi PCJ and JMFC court against three people including the tender contractor pertaining to the case of illegal sand mining in the guise of dredging in Swarna river here.

Lokayukta police had conducted a raid on May 16 over the illegal sand mining in the river and directed the officials of mining and geology to lodge a complaint. Two tippers, two hitachi vehicles, JCB and sand were confiscated during the raid.

The private complaint is lodged in the court against Vinay Kumar of India Private Limited who had obtained the tender and two tippers, two hitachi vehicles, JCB and sand were confiscated during the raid.

“There are allegations of involvement of ruling party leaders in the sand mining. An impartial enquiry should be conducted and the guilty should be severely punished,” stated former chief minister Siddaramaiah in his tweet to the state director general of police.

“The person who had complained about illegal sand mining is receiving threatening phone calls. He should be provided police protection immediately. Persons who are posing death threats to him should be identified and punished,” urged the former chief minister in his tweet.
