Congressman Andy Harris announced the allocation of $50 million from the House-passed FY26 Energy & Water Appropriations Act for a new dredging vessel intended to improve navigation along Maryland’s waterways. The funding specifically aims to replace the aging Dredge Currituck, which has hindered critical dredging projects due to its poor condition.
Harris emphasized the significance of this investment, stating, “For too long, critical dredging projects have been slowed,” and expressed gratitude for the bipartisan coalition that supported this initiative. In addition, the legislation includes over $375 million for coastal storm protection and beach management, benefiting community resilience against erosion and severe weather.
