U.S. Army’s massive Staten Island dredging project is running 24/7, will remove 170K tons of sand

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ removal of 170,000 tons of sand from Great Kills Harbor will improve access and safety at the East Shore site.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn) organized a Wednesday tour of the month-long project, which secured $6.75 million in funding as part of the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Act.
