The May 1- June 30 Turkey Creek Project protection window has passed and now the Project can safely restart operations, which was temporarily suspended the past few months in order to give the highest protection to the Florida manatees that visit the bay and Turkey Creek.
The dredge arrived Tuesday and is spudded in place until the rest of the equipment is deployed.
The pipeline is being fused together at the upland staging site on Pospisil Avenue and most likely will be put in place over the next week, followed by the turbidity curtains, with muck removal starting shortly after.
The County’s contractor will issue a “Notice to Mariners” through the U.S. Coast Guard to give allow any vessels mooring within the bay time to relocate before the muck removal starts.
“We look forward starting work again and bringing this beneficial restoration work to a successful conclusion,” said the City of Palm Bay in a social media post.
