TRC Companies Inc., a leader in engineering, environmental consulting and construction-management services, has been awarded a pair of awards from the Environmental Business Journal – one for business achievement and the other for an innovative remediation project to remove lead sediment from the Mill River in Fairfield, Conn.
“Our mandate at TRC is to make the earth a better place to live, and we’re thrilled to be recognized by EBJ for doing just that,” said John Cowdery, president of TRC’s Environmental Sector.
EBJ, a business research publication that provides high value strategic business intelligence to the environmental industry, is honoring companies for revenue growth, acquisitions, innovative project designs, technology applications, new practice areas, social contributions and industry leadership in 2017.
“In what is widely regarded as a stable market, a number of companies exceeded the norms of low single-digit growth with double-digit growth or ambitious ventures into new practice areas or technology development,” said Grant Ferrier, president of Environmental Business International Inc., publisher of EBJ.
TRC received a Business Achievement Award for negotiating its sale to New Mountain Capital for $550 million, a 47 percent premium on TRC’s stock price prior to the offer. EBJ said the deal “allows the company and its management the independence and access to capital to continue its ambitious growth and acquisition plans.”
TRC was also recognized for its sustainable resolution of legacy lead impacts to the Mill River in Fairfield on behalf of Exide Group/Vale Americas. The uniquely structured project involved dredging contaminated sediment along 2.5 miles of the river, performing passive dewatering of more than 30,000 tons of sediment and treating of more than 100 million gallons of wastewater within an aggressive two-year timetable.
The Mill River meanders 16.3 miles through Fairfield before emptying into Long Island Sound.
“[Connecticut] and the residents of the community appreciated the creativity, dedication, thorough and professional conduct, and faithful execution of the project by Exide and TRC as they focused on the remedial goals and a route to reach them,” said Patrick F. Bowe of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
TRC shared the award for the Mill River cleanup with Shipman & Goodman, LLP, a Hartford law firm involved in the project.
