The developer of the 800-MW Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind project near Massachusetts has sealed an interconnection agreement with transmission company ISO New England.
The agreement enables Vineyard Wind LLC, a 50/50 partnership between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Avangrid Renewables LLC, to connect the proposed wind park into the New England power grid. The interconnection point will be an NSTAR 115kV switch station in Barnstable, Massachusetts, the developer said on Wednesday.
Final acceptance for the execution of an interconnection agreement with ISO-NE was granted by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in September.
Vineyard Wind has long-term power purchase contracts with Massachusetts’ electric distribution companies (EDCs) for electricity from the complex, awarded in a competitive solicitation.
The 800-MW wind farm will be installed in federal waters some 15 miles off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard. Once operational, it will produce electricity for more than 400,000 homes and businesses per year, the developer estimates.
