Onslow County- NC — The town of N. Topsail is letting community members know the plans for Phase 4 beach renourishment and PTC #8 Dune restoration, per a release.
N. Topsail’s Engineer partnered with a contractor and the Division of Coastal Management (for permitting), to make the current plan for the contractor to complete the Phase 4 project and then proceed to the PTC #8 dune restoration project for areas where little to no dune is currently present. Phase 4 work is expected to be finished by the contractor by Monday, April 28. The contractor will move on to the Jenkins Way access to start work on the PTC # 8 dune restoration project, according to a release.
These areas included in this project is South of Marina Way, North of Barton Bay, One Topsail Dunes structure, and a small section fronting Shipwatch Villas. N. Topsail’s engineers determined these areas to be the most vulnerable to flooding.
According to N. Topsails Government, they have applied for a permit extension with the Division of Coastal Management for critical dune work to occur until Friday, May 9. The remainder of the dunes in the project area, which is located mainly in Phases 1-3 will be done in November of 2025 following the season for turtle nesting and hatching. The N. Topsail government is continuing to work with FEMA continues for this project.
