Top Army Corps Official to Visit Minot

U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp

Posted on July 12, 2016

A top official of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is slated to visit Minot next week to see the issues facing the community, five years after the record flood of 2011.

U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says Jo-Ellen Darcy, the Assistant Secretary of the Army, is coming to hopefully talk with some of the people who were hit by the flooding to learn how they’ve dealt with the disaster.

The Souris River in June 2011 swamped part of Minot, damaging or destroying more than 4,000 homes and other structures and caused nearly $700 million in damage.

Heitkamp tells KXMC-TV (http://bit.ly/29iuPtG ) it’s important for people working on flood control projects to see how the region is recovering and find ways to prevent flooding.
