Philadelphia, Pa. – U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) today applauded a nearly $50 million federal grant for the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PhilaPort) to aid in its Southport Wharf Development and Port Expansion project.
“Congratulations to PhilaPort and the City of Philadelphia on the awarding of this substantial federal grant,” said Senator Toomey. “The funds provided by this grant will fund improvements that will foster economic development for the region and the nation in years to come. I was pleased to support this application.”
“The award of this $49 million INFRA grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will allow PhilaPort to build on the momentum we have gained over the past several years,” said Jeff Theobald, PhilaPort Executive Director and CEO. “The Southport Berth Development project is a key component to PhilaPort’s growth and expansion and is vital to the region’s economic recovery.”
The Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant funds will be used to further develop the Southport berth, allowing for more efficient vehicle load and unload processes. Senator Toomey wrote a letter supporting the application in March.
