Mayor A. Jaya inspected the desilting works taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.10 lakh.
Executive Engineer Amuthavalli was among those who accompanied the Mayor.
Plan
Commissioner N.S. Prema said that it had been planned to dredge all important storm water and major drainage canals in the city.
The task would be carried out in support of Public Works Department.
Earthmovers would be used to clear the canals wherever they were wide enough.
If the canals were narrow, workers would be engaged.
The operation would cover the clearing of water hyacinth too.
She said that officials had been asked to identify the vulnerable canals that often got clogged during the rainy season.
Special attention would be paid on cleaning the silt.
Free flow of water and drainage should not be curtailed.
Special drive
