As expected, Measure O sailed to victory Tuesday night with more than 87 percent of voters on the Tiburon Peninsula in favor of a 25 percent parcel tax increase to pay for two dredging cycles intended to keep Paradise Cay a waterfront community.
With 68 votes, 87 percent, in favor of the measure and only 10 against, about 13 percent, the vote easily exceeded the two-thirds majority needed for passage.
The measure will raise the parcel tax from $1,200 to $1,500 with annual increases of up to 3 percent.
It will raise about $2.3 million over 10 years, increasing assessments to $1,957 by the 10th year.
Eric Lyons, chairman of the area’s advisory board, said dredging will save Paradise Cay from suffering the fate of Novato’s Bahia neighborhood, a former boating enclave that has become a marsh.
