JAKARTA – DKI Jakarta Governor-Deputy Governor Pramono Anung-Rano Karno targets the dredging of mud and sediment up to 1 million cubic meters (m3) in rivers, rivers, reservoirs, ponds, and reservoirs in Jakarta this year.

Secretary of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Office, Hendri, said that dredging as an increase in water capacity to control flooding will be carried out at 49 points in 5 administrative cities in Jakarta.

“In detail, in North Jakarta there are 13 points, East Jakarta 12 points, West Jakarta 10 points, Central Jakarta 8 points, and South Jakarta there are 6 points,” said Hendri in his statement, Sunday, March 2.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government has also cleaned or repaired water lines that are often clogged and cause rainwater to not enter the canal and become overflowing onto the streets.

Cleaning of water ropes has so far been carried out on Jalan Daan Mogot Km 13, Cengkareng, West Jakarta; Jalan Salemba Raya (in front of UI Salemba), Senen, Central Jakarta; Jalan Lake Sunter Utara, North Jakarta; Jalan Taman Mini I, East Jakarta.

“This activity is focused on clogged water lines due to piles of sediment, so it is unable to flow water properly and causes inundation,” said Hendri.

“Efforts to optimize this channel are carried out so that the water lines and drainage channels function optimally, so as to reduce potential flooding,” he added.

Last week, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government started simultaneous mud dredging operations in five administrative cities of Jakarta. In the Jakarta Alert Call, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno revealed that this activity is the starting point for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to increase readiness for the rainy season.

“We hope that this activity can be carried out optimally and it is our commitment to be ready to guard Jakarta throughout the year. Not only in the rainy season, because the threat of flooding or tidal waves can come at any time,” said Rano.

Rano said, as many as 13 river flows will be dredged and dams will be deepened. He assessed that as flood control infrastructure, river maintenance and reservoirs can increase water storage capacity, as well as flow water discharge properly when it rains.

The man who is familiarly called Doel also instructed the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Service (SDA) to install tracking equipment on heavy equipment, so that when working at every river point or reservoir, it can be monitored at any time.

“All tools must use GPS tracking, so that their movements can be monitored. It must be connected to my office so that they can participate in monitoring,” he concluded.
