Texas LNG, a subsidiary of Glenfarne Energy Transition, has entered into a significant agreement with Gulf LNG Tugs of Texas, selecting them to construct, deliver, and operate state-of-the-art tugboats for the LNG export facility set to be established in the Port of Brownsville. The long-term partnership aims to provide reliable marine assistance to LNG carriers arriving at the facility. Texas LNG emphasizes that these tugboats will exemplify the latest in low-emission technology, aligning with their “Green by Design” approach and showcasing a commitment to environmental sustainability.
The CEO and Founder of Glenfarne Energy Transition, Brendan Duval, underscored the meticulous selection process undertaken by the Texas LNG team to identify a marine service provider that not only shares their dedication to environmental stewardship but also ensures reliable and cost-effective marine services for customers.
Partners at Gulf LNG Tugs conveyed their excitement about providing marine services in a long-term partnership with Texas LNG. They expressed pride in being the exclusive tug operator for LNG vessels associated with another successful LNG project in the Port of Brownsville. Additionally, they look forward to expanding their operations within the port and strengthening their presence in the Rio Grande Valley community.
The Texas LNG export terminal, slated for construction in the Port of Brownsville, Texas, is anticipated to achieve financial close and commence construction activities in 2024. The facility is expected to begin commercial operations in late 2027 or early 2028, contributing to the growing LNG export infrastructure in the region.
Glenfarne Energy Transition holds the majority ownership and managing member status for Texas LNG, with Samsung Engineering as a minority equity interest owner. Samsung Engineering is spearheading the delivery of the facility in collaboration with Technip Energies U.S. Earlier this year, Texas LNG announced a heads of agreement (HOA) with EQT Corporation, securing natural gas liquefaction services for 0.5 million ton per annum of LNG.
The selection of Gulf LNG Tugs for the construction and operation of tugboats not only emphasizes Texas LNG’s commitment to environmental sustainability but also highlights the strategic partnerships forged to ensure the success of the export terminal.
