Plans to revitalize Barto Landing are moving ahead in Spring Valley.
The Spring Valley City Council Monday night approved a proposal for about $150,000 to dredge Barto Landing. River Docks Inc. of Peru was awarded the job and is expected to begin dredging the river attraction as soon as possible.
Last year, a message from the city of Spring Valley said a comprehensive plan was put together involving the removal of the stone outcrop at the lagoon inlet and dredging of the lagoon. Enhancements of Barto Landing will increase lagoon lighting, repair the parking lot, and repair the concrete boat launch. An additional removable dock on the east side of the landing will alleviate congestion. The city continues to pursue additional grant money to be reimbursed for the Barto Landing revitalization efforts.
It was announced last June that ownership of Barto Landing transferred to Spring Valley from Hall Township. Spring Valley Mayor Melanie Malooley Thompson says she looks forward to the boat launch being open again as a tourist attraction.
