Sunset Marina dredging begins

Dredging to begin at Sunset Marina on Monday.(The City of Rock Island)

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A contractor will begin dredging operations in the area of Sunset Marina on Monday.

According to the City of Rock Island, dredging at the entrance to Lake Potter in the Mississippi River as well as areas within Lake Potter are expected to be completed within 30 calendar days from Monday.

During the time of dredging, the city said all access to Sunset Park and Sunset Park Marina will be limited to the south entrance via 31st Avenue.

The city said the north entrance from 18th Avenue, including Sunset Lane, Skafidas Parkway, and the Great River Trail bike path entrance will be closed during the project.

Access to Riverstone Group and the Rock Island Boat Club will remain open, according to the city.

The City of Rock Island said it advises boaters to maintain a minimum distance of 100 feet from the dredge equipment for safety reasons and to follow posted construction signs for detours and street closures.
