The Sunset Beach Town Council has canceled its planned community meeting to discuss shoreline management because of the threat of Hurricane Matthew.
The meeting was set for Saturday, Oct. 8. An alternate date has not been scheduled.
Moffatt & Nichol, an engineering firm hired by the town, was to make a presentation and discuss proposed dredging areas in Jinks, Mary’s and Turtle Creeks, the Bay Area, the Feeder Channel and the finger canals along Sixth, Marlin, Dolphin, Sailfish and Cobia streets.
Residents near the proposed projects sites have expressed worry over dredging could have on sedimentation in Jinks Creek and, in turn, the health of an estuary that includes the creek.
