Sullivan Park and Lake hold forum on dredging project

Posted on March 17, 2025

SULLIVAN, Ind. — This evening, Sullivan Park and Lake held a community forum to discuss the dredging project for the lake.

Local city and county leaders attended the meeting to explain the environmental impacts of dredging the lake. The project will help improve water quality, increase recreational opportunities, and preserve the aesthetic appeal of the lake.

Sullivan Lake opened in 1969 and was planned to be dredged every 15 years. Since opening, the lake has never been dredged and has caused this project to be much bigger than regular routine maintenance.

Sullivan Lake to be dredged for first time

“The reason it probably hasn’t crossed the finish line in the past is because they tried to raise all the money at one time to go do the whole lake,” said Project Manager Chris Egge. “Well now we’re going to raise money and dredge a little bit. And then we’re going to raise money and dredge a little bit. And that’s the only way we’re going to get this accomplished.”

This will be a multi phase project and will begin on April 8th.
