Repairs and rehabilitation options go before the City Council on Tuesday.
Council members have three options for Suisun Marina dredging and Pierce Island levee rehabilitation: Reject the current bid, award the bid or continue the item to a December meeting.
The project in the past few weeks has been rescoped and the cost dropped from nearly $5.1 million to less than $3.4 million.
The original design included 67,125 cubic yards of material for the levees to be built around the entire island. The rescoping reduced the amount to 31,500 cubic yards, which covers the levee around only half of the island.
Funding is the main issue. According to staff, the budget would need to increase by $2.3 million over the next two years to complete the rescoped project.
The marina has not been dredged since 2008.
The council is also faced with where to find $184,100 for the Solano Storm Drain Repair Project. There are two choices: the general fund emergency reserve or the annual street repair program. Staff suggests tapping into the emergency reserve.
Council members will also be asked to give their OK to the design of an iconic sign that will be near the western terminus of Spring Street adjacent to the train depot.
The Planning Commission gave the project its approval seven years ago. Work was halted in September 2011 when the city’s redevelopment agency was dissolved.
The topic resurfaced in the 2017-18 budget with $270,000 allotted for the signage.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. City Council members will take part in a closed session at the beginning of the meeting or after it. Two items are on the closed session agenda: conference with legal counsel and the city manager’s performance evaluation.
Both the open and closed meetings are at 701 Civic Center Blvd. The complete agenda can be found at www.suisun.com.
