Strong growth in demand for Ecocoast customised marine protection systems

Aghyad Al Halabi, Regional Sales Director, Ecocoast

Posted on October 6, 2021

UAE-based Ecocoast, which designs and manufactures a range of products to protect coastlines, waterways, marine assets and infrastructure, has achieved considerable market success of late. The company reports that, despite the constraints of the pandemic, it increased revenues by 34% over the first half of 2021 compared to the equivalent period in 2020. Earlier this year, the company signed partnerships with companies from different parts of the world, including the UK, the Netherlands and Asia, as well as the Middle East, and is now collaborating with eight of the ten largest dredging companies in the world.

A pioneer in designing silt curtains to protect the marine environment during dredging, construction, or reclamation activities, Ecocoast was also the first to install sand-filled geo-textile mega-containers in the UAE.

Aghyad Al Halabi, Regional Sales Director, says, “At Ecocoast, we never stop looking for more innovative approaches and better technologies to further help support the marine industry. While we are confident in the quality and value that our products provide to clients and the marine ecosystem in general, it is our mandate to keep improving our products and services, which we have been doing for the past 10 years.”

He continues, “Especially now, at a time when sea levels are rising, pollution has become an even bigger issue and coastlines are increasing, the industry needs pioneers with innovative solutions to provide a balance between coastal development and environmental protection.”

While it is now a global business, the Middle East holds a special priority in its operations. Al Halabi says, “As a company headquartered in the UAE, it is our mission to help the region address its marine concerns through our suite of products for the protection of coastlines and waterways. New technologies can help to sustainably meet the long-term challenges associated with growing resource demand. As we continue to see more ambitious projects that require new and unique solutions, we expect to see more innovative uses for marine protection barriers globally. The closer we work with engineering teams to understand all factors behind a project and its design, the more we can push the boundaries.”

Ecocoast provides engineered products that have been subjected to rigorous testing to ensure functionality and longevity, as well as minimise environmental disruption. Al Halabi says, “We pride ourselves in conducting the most thorough modelling and simulation testing in the industry by adjusting dozens of variables over months of trialling to prepare our products for real-world applications. We customise our products based on project-specific demands as, any project manager in the world can attest, no two projects are the same. They each have their own unique set of marine conditions and challenges, which is why customised solutions are essential.”

In order to make this possible, Ecocoast has invested in new technology such as the in-house software system Marineforce. This allows the company’s engineers to simulate a variety of environmental and marine conditions in order to optimise the customisation of its products.
