In an effort to bolster its coastal restoration initiatives, St. Charles Parish has released the SHIELD Plan Draft for public perusal and feedback.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to dive into the document and make their voices heard by visiting the parish website, where the plan is laid out in full detail.
The primary aim of the SHIELD plan is clear – to enhance the parish’s capacity for forwarding its coastal restoration projects and to secure a spot for these local endeavors in the anticipated Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority’s (CPRA) Louisiana Comprehensive Master Plan for a Sustainable Coast.
The parish’s ambitions for the SHIELD plan are manifold but focused. Officials intend to pinpoint key coastal projects within St. Charles Parish that speak to the urgent needs for ecological restoration and that fortify the community against the relentless push of nature. In doing so, the plan will develop preliminary details for each of these Priority Projects, which is crucial as they form the bedrock of the parish’s vision of a resilient coastline. Additionally, it will shine a spotlight on large-scale and programmatic opportunities that could presumably tip the scales, and index existing funding programs and resources to breathe life into these initiatives.
