South Shore Dredging Finishes

Dredging operations at Lake Gregory’s South Shore finished earlier this week and crews from the county’s contractor have moved to the San Moritz area to begin dredging in front of Leisure Shores Community Center.

“We removed about 3,600 cubic yards of [sediment] from in front of the South Shores parking lot,” reported Jimmy Bon, project superintendent for Earth Construction & Mining. “We’ve now started dredging over by San Moritz Lodge.”

His crews are beginning to clear brush in front of the community center in order to remove silt and sediment.

Chris Freeman, manager for Lake Gregory Recreation, the concessionaire for Lake Gregory Regional Park, stated that he was pleased with the results of the dredging.

“I’m very happy with the work they’ve done at South Shore.”

He noted that he’s received positive feedback from visitors about moving the Rim of the World Waterpark further into Lake Gregory and directly across from the South Shore beach area.

Freeman explained that he needed to move the waterpark into deeper water because it requires at least 13 feet of water under the inflatable water toys.

An agreement in early May — between San Bernardino County and California Fish and Wildlife for mitigating habitat concerns at Lake Gregory — cleared the way for permits to be issued for dredging the North Shore Beach swim area and other areas of the lake. Dredging the San Moritz area is expected to be completed by the end of July.
