South Africa’s Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has begun a process to select a private entity that will operate the multipurpose terminal at the Port of Durban’s Maydon Wharf precinct.
TNPA, through a recently issued request for proposals (RFP), is inviting companies to bid for the concession to develop, fund, build, operate, and maintain the terminal over a period of 25 years, after which it must be transferred back to the South African Government via TNPA.
A site briefing is scheduled for March 27, while the deadline for the submission of bids is on June 9, 2025.
Capable of handling dry, break and liquid bulk as well as containers, Maydon Wharf covers approximately 145 hectares and has 15 berths. The entire facility has an annual cargo handling capacity of over seven million tonnes.
The selected bidder will oversee the construction of infrastructure including offices, mess facilities, security systems, lighting, and general machinery.
