MANCHESTER — A paperwork processing delay has pushed the Singing Beach revetment repair project to the fall.
T. Ford Company, Inc., the construction company hired for the FEMA-funded project, is expected to pull its equipment from the worksite sometime this week and return in September.
The announcement was made via an update from selectmen on the town’s website.
“We had a verbal OK from FEMA that our storm repair grant money was approved and that we could get started with our local match paying for the first quarter of the work,” said Town Administrator Gregory Federspiel. “Unfortunately, we are still waiting for the formal written approval. We don’t want construction going on at the beach during the busy summer season.”
FEMA promised to pick up $225,000 of the $300,000 project. The town will cover the remaining $75,000.
Work was initially set to begin in May after T. Ford completed fixing up the seawall at Morss Pier.
Singing Beach’s revetment received heavy storm damage in March 2018. Since then, a section to the east of the roundabout at the end of Beach Street has been repaired.
The beach will remain open to the public this summer. Once construction begins again, the roundabout in the parking lot will be partially closed for contractor use. Parking will still be available in the adjacent parking lot.
