The companies said BNS Decom “intends to revolutionise the decommissioning process for offshore windfarms, serving as a turnkey solution provider for asset owners.”
Ballast Nedam will be responsible for offshore operations and Sif will be responsible for receiving and processing decommissioned components for re-use and recycling.
The companies said all offshore and onshore work “will be carried out safely, efficiently and in an economically viable manner” and their ultimate goal “is to deliver the best value to the asset owner.”
In a statement, Sif and Ballast Nedam said, “Although it will be several years before a substantial number of windfarms are due for decommissioning, Ballast Nedam and Sif believe they need to prepare for this market.
“The repurposing of steel from decommissioned windfarms is an important step towards a sustainable and circular future, converting old monopiles into steel plate for new monopiles for the offshore wind market.”
