SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTGS) — Sen. Jon Ossoff made a few stops in the Hostess City Tuesday.
He first visited the Port of Savannah to to inspect ongoing expansion efforts.
The harbor expansion project here at the Port of Savannah is one of the most vital infrastructure projects in the United States,” said Sen. Ossoff.
The Port of Savannah is the third fastest growing port in the country. Ossoff plans to stay one-step ahead of the growth by expanding it with the help of a bill at the capitol.
As we move forward the passage of a major infrastructure bill in Congress this year, the timely and full completion of the deepening of the Port of Savannah must be at the top of the agenda, and I will ensure that it’s at the top of the agenda,” he said.
The passage of that bill could come as early as this summer, and the completion of this project in Savannah could come by the end of the year, according to Ossoff.
I have raised the importance of fully funding and expediting completion of this project with senior Biden administration officials and with the president himself,” said Ossoff.
Savannah Mayor Van Johnson also attended Tuesday’s tour of the ports. The mayor thanked the senator for his investment in clean energy and infrastructure.
Ossoff says these types of projects have gained bi-partisan support, and he expects the expansion in Savannah to have a ripple effect on the local economy.
This is going to create jobs for Savannah, for Georgia, for the American southeast and for the whole country,” said Ossoff.
