SEATTLE, Wash. – Imports through the ports of Seattle and Tacoma have experienced a significant decline, causing concern for businesses across Washington.
The Northwest Seaport Alliance reported a 26% year-over-year drop in international imports. This marks a decrease of nearly 25% from the previous week.
Port officials noted that the slowdown is already affecting small businesses and consumers. There are fewer goods coming in and reduced outbound shipping options for products such as Washington-grown agricultural goods.
Adding to the issue, new tariffs are driving prices up, with some goods now costing up to 20% more at the border.
