SeaSeaS Amsterdam and McDermott International, Ltd join forces to accelerate Europe’s CO₂ infrastructure

Posted on March 16, 2026

Today, SeaSeaS announces they awarded McDermott the pre-front-end-engineering and design contract (Pre-FEED) for a first-of-a-kind open-access liquid CO₂ terminal to be built in the Port of Amsterdam.

By combining SeaSeaS’ expertise in CO₂ logistics development with McDermott’s global front-end engineering and project delivery capabilities, we strengthen the technical backbone of the project and increase its investment readiness.

This partnership is about more than engineering. It is about building the missing infrastructure Europe needs to decarbonise industry at scale.

SeaSeaS Amsterdam will operate as a multimodal CO₂ hub, enabling emitters in the Netherlands and Germany to transport captured liquid CO₂ via truck, rail and inland shipping, with onward export to offshore storage sites in the North Sea. The project is carried out with Topsector Energy Subsidy from the Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth, reflecting the Ministry’s support and confidence in the role the SeaSeaS project can play in the Dutch and European CCS value chain.

“Decarbonising the industry requires more than ambition. It requires execution. By partnering with McDermott, we are building the technical and commercial foundation to make open-access CO₂ logistics a reality for Northwestern Europe.”— Kees van Seventer, Co-Founder & Managing Director, SeaSeaS

SeaSeaS is working closely with Port of Amsterdam and Programmabureau Noordzeekanaalgebied | NZKG, parties that are actively developing CO₂ network initiatives, reinforcing the region’s role in Europe’s emerging carbon management landscape.
