Searsport Dredging among Planned DOT Projects

Posted on January 24, 2017

Dredging of Searsport Harbor is included in a list of projects expected to take place in the next three years, along with safety and infrastructure improvements at Belfast Municipal Airport, bridge repair in Palermo and paving in more than a dozen Waldo County towns, according to a press release from Maine Senate President Michael Thibodeau, R-Waldo.

The Maine Department of Transportation Work Plan for calendar years 2017, 2018 and 2019 totals more than $2.3 billion and encompasses 2,411 projects across the state. According to the work plan, only paving is scheduled to take place in 2017 in Waldo County. Other projects are planned for subsequent years.

The projects and activities listed for calendar year 2017 are more firmly funded and have definite schedules, while listings for 2018 and 2019 are more subject to change based on funding and prices, permitting variables, and seasonal weather conditions. There are more than 1,200 projects scheduled for 2017.

“I am glad that these projects around Waldo County have been prioritized by the DOT,” Thibodeau said. “I am particularly proud of the work we did in the Legislature to make upgrades to the Belfast Municipal Airport. Having reliable transportation infrastructure is vital to Maine’s success, particularly in rural areas, and I look forward to seeing the progress on all of these important projects.”

Work at the airport also is scheduled for 2018/19 and carries an estimated $6.23 million cost estimate.

The full work plan, including an interactive plan that is searchable by municipality, can be accessed on the Maine Department of Transportation’s website at http://maine.gov/mdot/projects/workplan/search/.
