Scoping plans have been submitted for a 12-hectare quarry off the A14 in mid Suffolk.
Applicant Brett Aggregates Limited, with agents SLR Consulting Limited, has submitted plans for a mineral quarry in Barham.
This would see a 12ha extension of the existing 18.1ha Barham Quarry that collects sand and gravel.
In the planning statement to the county council, the agents wrote: “The prospective applicant is considering submitting a planning application to extend Barham Quarry in a southerly direction into an area of around 12ha, comprising a single agricultural field.
“It would be worked in a similar fashion to the current workings, with restoration involving the infilling the mineral void with inert materials and soils (waste or non-waste) to facilitate an agricultural after use, with biodiversity enhancements.”
The agents also added that the minerals extracted are transported by HGVs to the Shrublands Quarry, also owned by Brett Aggregates, which is located to the east of Norwich Road, where the materials are processed before being given to customers.
