The ongoing story that is Sandwich’s determined effort to fund the deposit of dredged canal-channel sediment on the municipal beach at Town Neck and Mill Creek entrance this winter continued last week.

Selectmen and Town Manager Bud Dunham were moving to secure another $600,000 in local funds to assure sediment deposit when canal dredging gets underway, likely in mid-November.

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. LLC of Illinois is the low bidder on the federal project at $5,899,400 but its $2,957,900 cost to Sandwich is “substantially more than the $1,700,000 estimate we were given by the Army Corps of Engineers,” Town Manager Bud Dunham noted late last week. “We need an additional $600,000.”
