RWE to cut US offshore wind jobs amid Trump policy challenges

Posted on March 17, 2025

German energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE) will lay off 73 employees at its US offshore business, according to a notice published on the Massachusetts government website.

The notice filed by subsidiary RWE Offshore Wind Services LLC states the date of the layoffs as May 6, 2025.

The company’s move comes shortly after US President Donald Trump halted wind energy leasing and project permitting during his first day in office.

RWE already warned in November 2024 that it would delay its planned investments as the risks for offshore wind projects in the US have increased after the presidential elections.

In the USA, RWE has a 6-GW offshore wind seabed portfolio, including Community Offshore Wind off the coasts of New York and New Jersey and the 1.6-GW Canopy Offshore Wind project off the coast of Northern California.

According to its website, RWE employs around 1,500 people in the US.
