Russian Yard Launches 2nd CSD for Rosmorport

Posted on May 16, 2025

Russian shipyard Stroyliderplus has launched a new non-self-propelled cutter suction dredger (CSD) ordered by Russian state-owned marine services provider Rosmorport.

Nikolay Grichanovsky is the second vessel to be built under the Project FPDG3 series of CSDs designed for use in port and channel waters. Nikolay Rusanov, the lead vessel in the series, was handed over to Rosmorport last year.

Upon completion, the steel-hulled dredger will have an LOA of 55 metres, a beam of 12.5 metres, a maximum draught of only 2.1 metres, a deadweight of 503, a minimum dredging depth of three metres, and a maximum dredging depth of 15 metres.

The dredging equipment will consist of a pump with a dedicated 1,820kW motor, a 500kW cutter, and suction and discharge pipes each with a diameter of 800 mm.

There is an opening on the bow for the frame on which the cutter and the soil suction pipe will be fitted. Transport of the excavated soil from the work site to the shore will be done with the aid of a floating slurry pipeline.

Construction of Nikolay Grichanovsky is being undertaken in compliance with Russian Maritime Register of Shipping rules including those that cover safe operation at a distance of up to 50 nautical miles from the nearest place of refuge.
