Royal IHC: Unveiling new Modular Cable Lay Spead!

Posted on February 25, 2026

Offshore wind projects frequently encounter delays caused by limited cable lay vessel availability and long mobilisation periods. The new Modular Cable Lay Spread has been purpose-built to overcome these barriers, enabling rapid mobilisation and multi-vessel compatibility for both power cable installation and repair campaigns.

At the core of the system’s design are palletised modules that can be transported in standard ISO containers and pre-assembled on the quayside, significantly reducing lifting operations and vessel idle days. Multiple fastening locations also allow the spread to be configured around different deck constraints without redesign or permanent modification.

How it differs from traditional fixed systems:

  • 48-hour mobilisation and commissioning
  • Configurable across a wide range of vessel types and sizes
  • Adaptable for both cable installation and repair campaigns
  • Flexible module positioning with no permanent vessel modifications
  • Reduced downtime with fewer lifting manoeuvres and plug-and-play operation

With simplified integration across vessels of opportunity, the Modular Cable Lay Spread enables faster mobilisation and adaptable installation and repair workflows.

By removing dependence on specific cable lay vessel availability, the system delivers the flexibility needed to accelerate deployment and improve offshore wind uptime.
