Royal IHC to unveil four-track mine countermeasures crawler Royal IHC

Posted on April 30, 2025

Royal IHC has teased the latest in its series of seabed crawling mine countermeasure (MCM) vehicles, a four-track model with the capability to go significantly deeper than its predecessors.

“With unmatched stability, precision, and reach, this innovative solution is being engineered to inspect what others can’t, even in the most challenging environments,” said Royal IHC.

“Unaffected by waves and weather, it’s intended to deliver crystal-clear data directly from the seabed – enabling inspection, monitoring, maintenance, and mine countermeasure operations without compromise.”

The company said it is developing the new subsea crawler technology together with sensor partners Elwave, CSignum, i2S Orphie, and Teledyne Marine.

Less than a month ago, Royal IHC said it was partnering with France’s Elwave to enhance naval MCM capabilities under the EU-funded European “extended mine countermeasures” programme, adapting an existing two-track seabed crawler equipped with Elwave’s Octopulse sensor.

The company said it will demonstrate the new crawler’s capabilities at an event in May.
