Miami has taken another step in expanding its cruise infrastructure, with officials breaking ground on the future Cruise Terminal G at PortMiami — a major new facility designed to serve the next generation of cruise ships.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together Daniella Levine Cava, members of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, PortMiami Director and CEO Hydi Webb, and Jason Liberty, underscoring the scale and significance of the project for both the county and the global cruise industry.
The new Cruise Terminal G will be delivered by the Lemartec–NV2A Joint Venture, in partnership with Perez & Perez Architects & Planners, under a design-build model. Once completed, the terminal will serve Royal Caribbean Group and is being designed to meet LEED certification standards. The facility will have the capacity to accommodate up to 7,000 passengers and will be equipped to support the company’s largest ships, including its Icon-class vessels.
Plans for the terminal include a multi-level parking garage, an intermodal transportation facility, and supporting infrastructure intended to streamline embarkation and disembarkation. The project is designed as a single-berth terminal with multi-vessel functionality, allowing for efficient operations while integrating new technology focused on passenger flow and energy efficiency.
The total investment for Cruise Terminal G is $345 million, funded through a partnership between Miami-Dade County and Royal Caribbean Group. While the terminal will be dedicated to Royal Caribbean Group operations, the design allows flexibility to support multiple vessels and evolving operational needs as ship sizes and passenger volumes continue to grow.
Liberty said the terminal reflects the cruise company’s broader strategy as it expands its fleet and shoreside footprint. “Cruise Terminal G represents a major investment in Miami’s future,” he said in a statement. “Built with advanced technology and sustainable design, this new facility will deliver a smarter, faster, more seamless experience for guests sailing with our industry-leading brands: Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea.”
Beyond operations, the terminal’s architecture is expected to become a prominent addition to the PortMiami skyline, aligning with a broader trend toward landmark waterfront cruise facilities that visually connect ports with their surrounding cities. County and port officials said the project adds capacity while strengthening PortMiami’s position at the center of the global cruise network.
Construction on Cruise Terminal G is underway, with completion targeted for late 2027.
