Roswell council will consider neighborhood pond dredging applications

Posted on January 28, 2026

ROSWELL, Ga. — Due to the winter weather, tonight’s committees of council meeting will be followed by a rescheduled special called meeting and Roswell City Council meeting Jan. 27.

The committees of council meeting acts as a work session for the mayor and council members. It will start at 5 p.m. in Room 220 at City Hall.

The mayor and council will hear dredging assistance applications for the Nesbit Lakes neighborhood and Chickering Lake. The stormwater ponds on both properties were constructed more than 30 years ago and have not been dredged since.

With the lack of dredging, sediment has accumulated and decreased the flood control capacity of the ponds. This has increased the burden on Roswell’s downstream stormwater conveyance system, which collects runoff water and moves it away from infrastructure.

Roswell has a dredging assistance program that will provide a reimbursement of up to 50 percent of the dredging operation costs. If approved as requested, Nesbit Lake will receive a reimbursement of more than $304,000. Chickering Lake is requesting $325,000 in reimbursements from Roswell.

The third item on the Committees of Council agenda is preliminary approval for Roswell to begin obtaining the right of way for 16 parcels involved in the Green Street Mobility Project. The right-of-way costs $875,000.

The project includes converting Green Street into a one-way southbound road which took effect last week. Plum Tree Street will eventually be converted into a pedestrian path, no longer allowing vehicular traffic. A multi-use trail along Green Street from Ga. 9 to Cherry Way will be available to residents once constructed.

The special called meeting will be held after the Committees of Council meeting finishes. It will be a closed session to discuss personnel, litigation and real estate.

The consent agenda contains the only items up for vote at the City Council meeting at 7 p.m.

Items include approving a contract with Ready Power to install a backup generator at the Roswell Water Utility. This will ensure that Roswell is able to provide water to residents if there’s a power outage without having to tap into Fulton County’s water services.

Water service provided by Roswell could soon expand. The city council will consider approving a request by Garrison Hill subdivision to make its water utilities public. This will come at no cost to the city with each home in the subdivision required to purchase a meter from the Roswell Water Utility and the homeowners association paying for construction items.
