The “crown jewel of the Ozarks” is facing an “economic disaster” as Rockaway Beach Mayor Don Smith puts it, when it comes to Lake Taneycomo flooding.
“Rockaway Beach is where tourism first started,” Smith said.
“Rockaway Beach means to the Ozarks what Israel means to the world. Everybody has some kind of memory here. Everybody that I’ve talked to has a story to tell … It’s not just important to the locals; it’s important to everybody in the Ozarks.”
